Our professional cleaners have tackled every stain imaginable across hundreds of Bay Area homes. Here are the toughest ones — and exactly how to treat them.
Act fast. Blot (never rub). Mix 1 tbsp dish soap + 1 tbsp white vinegar + 2 cups cold water. Apply and blot repeatedly. For set stains: hydrogen peroxide paste with dish soap (test hidden area first).
Never use hot water on wine — it permanently sets the stain. Always use cold water.
Absorb fresh grease with baking soda (15 min, then brush off). Apply dish soap directly and work in gently. For set grease: WD-40 to loosen, then dish soap treatment.
Blot immediately, apply cold water. White vinegar and water solution works on fabric and tile. Avoid scrubbing — it spreads the stain.
Blot as much as possible. Saturate with enzymatic cleaner (Nature's Miracle or similar). Never use steam — heat permanently bonds urine proteins to carpet fibers.
After enzymatic treatment, press dry with a heavy book on paper towels to avoid rewetting the carpet below.
Warm white vinegar left 15 minutes, then scrub. Baking soda and dish soap paste for stubborn buildup. Squeegee after every shower to prevent recurrence.
Soak paper towels in white vinegar and press to the surface 30–60 minutes. For severe mineral deposits, CLR works well.
Walls: rubbing alcohol. Fabric: WD-40 then dish soap. Wood: mayonnaise left a few minutes often removes crayon cleanly.
Non-porous surfaces: 1 cup bleach per gallon water. Porous: hydrogen peroxide (safer). Never mix bleach and ammonia — the fumes are toxic.
